Dark vs. Light: Introduction

Dark vs. Light: Introduction

Chezré van Rensburg

Well, hello there!

Thank you for visiting; it's wonderful to see you here.

Whether you're reading this because you're a friend or family member, or if you stumbled across it by pure chance, I hope you enjoy your time here.

Oh dear, where are my manners?

I suppose we should do the mandatory introduction. After all, this is a personal journey, and I couldn't expect you to hop on the joyride without knowing who I am.

My name is Chezré van Rensburg. I live in the beautiful country of South Africa, where I was born and raised. I have a deep-rooted connection with music, particularly rock and metal, and I'm a proud part of the Johannesburg alternative scene. I love cats (and all other animals, but mainly cats), video games (PC master race), and working out (I take gym and mental health seriously).

I've been writing for as long as I can remember, back when the passion first ignited as my thoughts drove the rhythm of my hand moving the pen, giving me a joy I'd never experienced.

I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a writer. I fell in love with the stories I would read, which distracted me from the mundane activities of school, the harsh words of the bullies, and the frequent dreariness of life. I discovered that when I wrote, I could transport myself into another world, a state of mind where magic and creativity collided, and I could bring my racing thoughts to life.

Over two decades later, that magic hasn’t died. It has only grown stronger, feeding a desire to pour my heart and thoughts out, expressing everything that's swimming around inside the expanse of my mind.

I am known on social media platforms as Dark vs. Light, which is also the name of my book, my poetry group, and my brand in general, including this revived blog. It encompasses the lifelong battle between dark and light, good and evil, and sadness and happiness. This is a journey into the realities of this world: all the good, the bad, the messy, and the inspiring, moving, and life-changing. The joys, the lows, the downfalls, and the stories of recovery.

I often touch on the dark: depressing thoughts my mind grapples with, existential dread, suicidal tendencies, mood swings, being the black sheep and the outcast, unhealthy relationships, and hopelessness.

But I also balance those by touching on the light: love, faith, finding freedom in being different, overcoming addictions and hardships, looking for the beauty in imperfections, and falling in love with the gift of life.

There's so much to talk about. Where do I even begin?

This is why I've decided to start this blog. I have an abundance of thoughts to share with you, dear reader, and I hope they can move, entertain, and inspire you.

I invite you to join me as we explore past, present, and future. I'll share my story with you, and hopefully, you can find something to latch onto and carry with you.

This blog will feature anything and everything. I've been a poet since my pre-teen years, so naturally, you'll find some poetic ramblings from me.

I'm also a strong advocate for mental health and passionate about related topics of interest. So you'll find some of my insights into the world of psychology and various musings on the complex human mind. I'll cover topics on mental illnesses, depression, therapy, bipolar disorder, anxiety, loss, borderline personality disorder, melancholy, and so much more. I may even share some of my personal history with you as we delve into the deepest pits of addiction, recovery, and redemption.

Finally, I want to use this platform to bring glory to God and share the good news of Jesus Christ far and wide. I'll strive to glorify Him as much as I can, because I wouldn't be writing without Him, and He is my most valued muse and biggest inspiration.

So I'll share some of my thoughts about the things of this world and the things of heaven, bringing them together in a perfect amalgamation of inspiration and praise.

Maybe I'll even reveal to you how imperfect I am, and how Jesus has brought me from complete darkness into everlasting, all-encompassing light and hope.

I believe that God blessed me with a writer's mind, and that He has a purpose for me with it. Hopefully, this is a step in the right direction; my revival, taking back what the enemy stole and finally writing as I've always wanted and been destined to do.

Welcome to my life. My passion. My world.

Welcome to Dark vs. Light.

Enjoy the ride!

With love,

Chezré
